Easter is a very important time in the Catholic calendar and so there are many processions in all of Spain.
In Castril, there are actually three processions through the town. The first, on the Thursday night symbolizes the carrying of Jesus' body while still attached to the cross. It is done in total silence and pitch darkness - the only artificial light being cast by the candles and lanterns carried by the mourners.
The last procession occurs on Easter Sunday where the risen Jesus is carried through the town along with the Virgin Mary.
